Katsina University officially verifies the kidnapping of two female students.

In recent news, Al-Qalam University, a private institution in Katsina State, has officially verified the abduction of two female students in Kaduna. The victims, Habiba Ango Shantali and Maryam Abubakar Musa, were traveling in a commercial vehicle from Niger State to Katsina when they were abducted around Zaria on January 15, 2024.

The spokesperson for Al-Qalam University, Malam Akilu Abubakar, confirmed the abduction on Thursday, January 18, stating that the last contact with the students’ families was when they reached Zaria en route to Katsina. The students were on their way to Katsina from Niger State to resume their studies.

Abubakar emphasized that the circumstances surrounding the abduction are still unclear, as the incident did not occur within the university premises. He mentioned that the university has been in touch with the families, who have confirmed the unfortunate development.

The Vice-Chancellor of Al-Qalam University, Prof. Nasiru Musa-Yauri, expressed sympathy for the affected families and assured them of the university’s support during this challenging time. He also offered prayers for the protection of the students and a swift resolution to their release.
