Renowned pediatrician Dr. Zamambo Siphokazi Mkhize, aged 39, was tragically murdered in South Africa.
Her lifeless body was discovered crammed into the trunk of her car in Imbali, Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal, on March 22, 2024.
Allegedly, Zamambo’s husband became concerned when she failed to return home from work or respond to calls. After consulting with Zamambo’s family and the tracking company monitoring her car, he reported her missing.
Around 8 pm that same evening, the South African Police Service (SAPS) located Zamambo’s vehicle abandoned on the J18 in Imbali, a mere 3 kilometers from her workplace. Upon arrival at the scene, her family made the grim discovery of her lifeless body in the trunk.
Zamambo had reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the head and displayed signs of assault, evident from a bruised and swollen eye. Her handbag and cell phone were missing from the vehicle.
Dr. Zamambo Mkhize served as a pediatrician at Harry Gwala Regional Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, leaving behind her husband and children.
In response to the tragic incident, the KwaZulu-Natal health department issued a statement on Monday, March 25, urging law enforcement to spare no effort in their investigation.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues for their profound loss. This loss is deeply felt within the department and the medical community, given her pivotal role in saving lives daily,” expressed provincial health spokesperson Ntokozo Maphisa.
Col. Robert Netshiunda, the provincial police spokesperson, disclosed that Plessislaer officers are actively investigating the murder.
“Police arrived at the scene and discovered the body of a woman with apparent signs of assault and a gunshot wound,” stated Netshiunda. He added that the suspects remain unidentified, and while robbery is a possible motive, investigations are ongoing.
