Man kills brother over property in Niger

A tragic incident unfolded in Gawu Babangida, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, where a 30-year-old man, Abubakar Sani, fatally struck his elder brother, Kabiru, during a heated argument over property.

Reports indicate that Kabiru succumbed to injuries sustained when Sani struck him with a large stick amidst the altercation. Prior to the argument, the suspect had allegedly been issuing threats to his family members.

Confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, informed Punch that the suspect has been apprehended.

“On 24/3/2024 at about 11:45 hrs, police operatives attached to Gawu-Babangida Division arrested one Abubakar Sani, 30 years of Gawu-Babangida area, Gurara LGA,” stated the PPRO.

“The suspect was arrested for engaging in a physical altercation with his brother, Kabir Sani, aged 34, over property matters. During the altercation, he allegedly struck his brother with a stick on the head.

“The victim lost consciousness and was immediately rushed to FMC, Gawu, where he was pronounced dead. Preliminary investigation is underway, and the suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and diligent prosecution.”
