The Bauchi State Police Command has launched a full investigation into a case of mob violence that left one man dead and another critically injured in the Lushi area of the state.
The incident occurred on the night of April 9, when a group of youths reportedly attacked two men—one identified only as Peter, and 38-year-old Dokagk Danladi—accusing them of stealing a dog.
In a statement released on Thursday, April 10, police spokesperson Ahmed Wakil confirmed that Peter was found dead at the scene, while Danladi sustained severe machete wounds to the head. He was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital for treatment.

A team of detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer, visited the scene to gather evidence and begin efforts to identify those involved in the attack. Wakil assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and pledged that all perpetrators will be brought to justice.
Condemning the incident, Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, described the attack as “barbaric” and a clear violation of the rule of law.
“No individual has the right to take the law into their own hands,” Aliyu said. “Anyone suspected of a crime must be handed over to the appropriate authorities to face due legal process.”
He called for calm and urged residents to trust the police to handle the matter appropriately. Aliyu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ending mob justice and ensuring such incidents are not repeated.
