The Jigawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a newly married man who allegedly died after consuming a poisoned meal prepared by his wife in Gauza village, Jahun Local Government Area.

According to preliminary police findings, the deceased reportedly ate his lunch at home before falling seriously ill. He was rushed to a hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

Following the incident, detectives from the Jahun Division commenced an investigation and arrested the deceased’s wife as the prime suspect. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to poisoning her husband’s food with rat poison. She further disclosed that she sent her cousin to purchase the poison used in carrying out the act.

The suspect also claimed that she was forced into the marriage by her parents, a situation she said contributed to her actions.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for a thorough investigation. He added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
