The Oyo State Government has refuted reports alleging a kidnapping incident at the College of Nursing campus in Kishi, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola, said the panic stemmed from an unverified alarm that quickly circulated among students, staff, and residents.
He assured parents and the general public that no abduction occurred and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring safety across educational institutions in the state.
Olayiwola also warned against the spread of unconfirmed information online, noting that sharing false reports could constitute a cybercrime. He urged those behind the rumour to desist from such actions.
Similarly, the Provost of the Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, said internal checks conducted with security personnel found no evidence of any breach on the campus.
The college management added that efforts are underway to trace the source of the rumour, while additional security measures have been reinforced to forestall a recurrence.
Parents and guardians were advised to depend on official communication channels and refrain from reacting to unverified reports on social media.
