Police in Anambra State Conduct Raid on Brothel, Rescue 9 Sex Workers, and Apprehend Proprietor

In a successful operation on June 19th, men of the Anambra State Police Command rescued nine girls who were being exploited as sex workers in a brothel located in Awka, Anambra State. Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a raid on the facility, resulting in the liberation of the victims, all of whom were between the ages of 15 and 23.

According to a statement from the spokesperson of the state police command, the girls had been lured from Ebonyi, Enugu, Akwa-Ibom, and Rivers States with promises of employment to help support their families and dependents financially.

The proprietor of the brothel was apprehended by the police, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for further investigation.

The Anambra State Police Command has collaborated with the State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare to ensure the well-being of the rescued girls and their safe return to their parents or guardians. The police have condemned the exploitation of vulnerable individuals for monetary gain, considering such establishments as havens for criminal activities.

The police urge the people of Anambra State to continue providing information about similar locations, as joint operations to eradicate such establishments are underway.
