Anambra Police Launch Operation to Rescue Two Kidnapped Catholic Nuns
The Anambra State Police Command has deployed a team of operatives to rescue two Catholic nuns who were abducted in the state.
The nuns were kidnapped on the evening of Tuesday, January 7, while returning from a vocational service meeting in Ogboji, Orumba North Local Government Area.
Confirming the deployment, the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, along with the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, visited the kidnapping scene for an on-the-spot assessment.
“Police-led Joint Operation is already ongoing to rescue the two Catholic nuns allegedly kidnapped along Ufuma Road, Orumba North Local Government Area. The incident occurred on the evening of January 7, 2025, when the nuns were returning from a vocational service meeting in Ogboji,” Ikenga said in a statement on Wednesday evening.
He added that the police were working on some leads to identify and arrest the kidnappers while continuing efforts to rescue the victims.
Additionally, the state police command is still working to rescue Hon. Justice Azuka, a member of the state House of Assembly representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency, who was kidnapped on Christmas Eve while returning home for the holidays. The abduction occurred at Ugwunakpamkpa, Inland Town, Onitsha, by a gang of criminals.
The police have recovered the lawmaker’s vehicle, which he was driving when he was kidnapped. It was found in the Upper Iweka area of Onitsha.
