Police stop 14-year-old boy attempting to stow away at Lagos airport

The Airport Police Command has apprehended a 14-year-old boy, Eke Miracle, over an attempted stowaway incident at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos.

In a statement issued on Monday, March 30, 2026, the command’s spokesperson, ASP Mohammed Adeola, said the teenager was caught on the airport tarmac while trying to illegally access the underside of an aircraft.

Following his arrest, the minor was taken into protective custody, and his parents were immediately informed.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the boy gained unauthorized access to a restricted area of the airport, violating the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) byelaws and engaging in actions consistent with a stowaway attempt.

The police noted that all procedures were followed in handling the case, including conducting interviews in the presence of his parents and ensuring the child received proper care and welfare support.

The Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, CP Ogunbode Olufunke, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting the nation’s aviation infrastructure, describing the airport as a critical asset that demands strict compliance with security regulations.

She also urged parents and guardians to be more vigilant about their children’s movements, especially around restricted and high-risk areas like airports.

The command added that the case will be handled in line with juvenile justice procedures, and the boy will be charged before the appropriate juvenile court, while emphasizing its continued commitment to safety, security, and the protection of minors’ rights.
