Student remanded for allegedly assaulting 13-year-old girl in Ondo.

An Akure Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a 17-year-old student, Ilesanmi Emmanuel, in a juvenile correctional facility for allegedly striking a 13-year-old schoolgirl, Olamide Kadiri, with a metal belt and causing a serious eye injury.

The incident was said to have occurred on February 19, 2026, at about 7:41 a.m. at Mooreb Idea Primary and College in Akure, the capital of Ondo State.

Emmanuel was arraigned alongside the school proprietor, Mathew Ologunleko, 70; a staff member, Ade Agunbiade, 40; and a class teacher, Anifowose Rebecca, 38, who were accused of negligence.

According to the charge, the teenage defendant allegedly hit the victim with a metal belt during a school event, resulting in severe injury to her right eye.

Police prosecutor Martins Olowofeso told the court that the school authorities allegedly failed to properly supervise the students, which led to the incident.

The charge further stated that the proprietor and the two staff members neglected their duty of care to ensure the safety of students under their supervision.

The alleged offence is said to contravene Sections 515 and 335 of the Criminal Code of Ondo State (2021).

Counsel to the defendants, Israel Tiwo, urged the court to grant bail to the second, third and fourth defendants.

In her ruling, Magistrate Temitope Alphonso granted bail to the three defendants in the sum of ₦500,000 each, with one surety in like sum.

However, the court ordered that the teenage defendant be remanded in a juvenile correctional facility pending further hearing.

The magistrate also directed that a weekly medical report on the victim’s health condition be submitted to the court.

The case was adjourned until March 31, 2026, for further proceedings.
