Suspected herdsmen invade Kogi community, many dead

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen launched a deadly attack on the Agojeju-Odo community in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State, resulting in multiple fatalities.

The assailants, armed with guns, descended on the community in the early hours of Friday, April 5, 2024, and indiscriminately opened fire on residents.

Reports indicate that the attack has claimed the lives of over 30 individuals, including men, women, and children. Additionally, some local vigilante members have ventured into the surrounding bush in search of missing persons.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP William Aya, stated that the Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, has dispatched tactical teams to the affected area.

“Yes, there was an attack in the village of Omala. The CP has deployed the enforcement team along with other security agencies,” remarked the PPRO.

Aya further disclosed that investigations are underway to determine the motive behind the attack and to apprehend the perpetrators.
