Members of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, have successfully apprehended a 24-year-old notorious cultist who had been causing fear among the local residents for an extended period.
Captain Wasuku Alushi, the Commanding Officer of FOB in Igbokoda, represented by the Executive Officer of the Base, announced the arrest of the suspect, Tosin Wanlele, during a press parade on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. The operation aimed to sustain the ongoing efforts to combat cultism and other criminal activities in their operational area, resulting in the successful apprehension of Wanlele on Sunday, November 12, 2023.
Alushi explained, “The suspect, along with others who are currently at large, were alleged to have been harassing and intimidating passers-by with dangerous weapons.” Acting on credible intelligence, the Navy responded promptly and arrested Wanlele. The suspect’s notoriety was confirmed by the head of the Vigilante in Igbokoda, who attested to his long-standing involvement in terrorizing the community.
Wanlele has been handed over to the Department of State Service (DSS) for further investigation. Alushi emphasized the ongoing collaboration between the Base and other security agencies in Ondo State to curb cultism in their operational area.
Assuring the public, Alushi stated, “Igbokoda and its environs are relatively calm and will continue to remain so.” He pledged the Base’s commitment to maintaining an aggressive stance against criminal activities to ensure the unhindered growth of legitimate businesses.
Alushi encouraged the community to provide timely and actionable intelligence on criminal elements for possible arrest, reinforcing the collective effort to maintain security in the region.
