The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has elucidated the rationale behind its operatives conducting stop-and-search operations on the well-known Admiralty Way in Lekki, Lagos State.

In response to an inquiry from comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, on Saturday, November 4, the agency disclosed that the stop-and-search exercise was initiated to safeguard residents from the actions of drug dealers and to interrupt the illicit substance supply chain. Basketmouth had taken to his social media handle to inquire if the anti-graft agency had incorporated such practices upon noticing some officials in Lekki.

The NDLEA responded via its social media handle, saying:

“Thanks, #basket_mouth. The men are on authorized duty based on intelligence, and their presence there is not a routine occurrence. It is part of our efforts to protect residents from the activities of drug dealers and to disrupt the supply chain of illicit substances. The cooperation of all is crucial.”
