Ibrahim Gusau, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has pledged to introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). Speaking at the inaugural retreat of the NPFL’s management and personnel in Abuja, Gusau outlined plans for the gradual implementation of VAR in the local league. He stated that the federation would initiate the process by sending certain referees to observe and learn from nations that have already adopted the VAR system.

Gusau expressed confidence in the effective integration of VAR into domestic football, assuring that the implementation would occur before the conclusion of his first term as the president of the Nigeria Football Federation in 2026. He emphasized that the transition to VAR would be a gradual process, but the federation is committed to reaching that goal.
