Two members of the House of Representatives from Osun State—Taofeek Ajilesoro and Omirin Emmanuel Olusanya—alongside Marcus Onobun from Edo State, have officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The trio announced their defections through separate letters addressed to the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, which were read on the House floor on Wednesday. The lawmakers cited “irreconcilable divisions” within the PDP as the reason for their decision.

The announcement was made in the presence of Senator Ajibola Bashiru, APC National Secretary, who was in the chamber to show the ruling party’s endorsement of the defections.

In response, Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda called on the Speaker to declare the seats of the defecting members vacant, referring to constitutional provisions that bar elected officials from switching parties without a legitimate party division.
