The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) have instructed their members across university and inter-university center campuses nationwide to initiate a service withdrawal starting from Monday, March 18.
This directive comes after the associations recently conducted a seven-day warning strike over the unpaid salaries of their members.
In a new memorandum issued by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of SSANU and NASU, and endorsed by SSANU’s National President, Mohammed Ibrahim, and NASU’s General Secretary, Peters Adeyemi, the unions have urged branch leaders to commence the nationwide strike effective tomorrow and ensure complete compliance with the directive.
JAC has placed the blame on the Nigerian government for allowing the situation to deteriorate, questioning why salaries withheld from Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members have been paid while those of SSANU and NASU members remain outstanding.
The memo emphasizes:
“Please be aware that the seven-day warning strike must be thorough and comprehensive, with no exceptions. Strict adherence to this directive is mandatory for all NASU and SSANU branches in the Universities and Inter-University Centers.”
