Professor Jerry Gana, a founding member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has spoken on the political relevance of Peter Obi and the unfolding dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In an interview with AIT, Prof. Gana described Obi, a former PDP member and presidential candidate, as a credible and highly respected figure in Nigerian politics. He confirmed that efforts are underway to bring Obi back into the PDP fold.

“We have reached out to him,” Prof. Gana stated, emphasizing that the party recognizes Obi’s influence and the need for unity among opposition forces ahead of 2027.

Reflecting on the 2023 presidential election, Gana said that if he had been in Atiku Abubakar’s position, he would have stepped aside in favor of Obi. Such a decision, he argued, would have solidified Atiku’s legacy as a true statesman.

Prof. Gana also revealed that talks are ongoing with various southern political leaders, noting that he is leading the PDP delegation involved in these high-level consultations.
