2027: Obi’s One-Term Pledge Raises Constitutional Concerns — PDP Deputy National Youth Leader

The Deputy National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Timothy Osadolor, has raised concerns that Peter Obi’s pledge to serve only one term if elected president in 2027 could undermine the spirit of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution.

Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, August 5, Osadolor described Obi’s promise as unnecessary and potentially harmful to the country’s democratic framework.

“The Constitution clearly permits a president to serve up to two terms. Committing to just one term could devalue the electoral process and set a problematic precedent,” he said.

Osadolor argued that political campaigns should emphasize a candidate’s competence, leadership, and vision for national unity rather than symbolic gestures.

He further accused Obi of appealing to emotions to gain support while disregarding constitutional principles.

“If you are running on capacity, competence, and unity, let that be your message. But saying, ‘I’ll only serve four years,’ is unnecessary and misleading,” Osadolor added.

He concluded by stating that Nigeria needs a capable leader and genuine healer who can steer the nation through its current challenges.
