Tragedy struck in the Ilasamaja area of Lagos State over the weekend as a 9-year-old boy named Chinemerem and another individual, identified simply as Qudus, were electrocuted after coming into contact with a live wire.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday, June 23, 2025, by its spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin.
“On June 20, 2025, at about 9:44 p.m., a complainant reported at the Ilasamaja Division that his 9-year-old nephew, Chinemerem, and one Qudus were electrocuted around 5:00 p.m. the same day after coming into contact with a bare wire at their residence,” Hundeyin stated.
According to the police, both victims were rushed to the hospital, where they were unfortunately confirmed dead by the attending doctor.
Following the report, a team of police detectives visited the scene for investigation. The hospital was also visited, and the bodies were examined and later deposited at the public morgue for autopsy.
Authorities have not yet released further details on how the live wire became exposed, but investigations are ongoing.
