Gunmen have abducted 13 individuals in Piko, a secluded community within the Bwari area council of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. The incident, which took place on Sunday, May 5, 2024, lasted for over an hour, during which neither the vigilante group nor other security agencies intervened.
According to a reliable source from the community, Chief John Jatau, the Maidakin of Piko, confirmed that 10 residents, including 4 nomadic Fulani herdsmen, were taken captive. One of the Fulani individuals managed to escape from the kidnappers’ custody.
Chief Jatau further revealed that the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of N900 million. Among the identified victims are Nuhu Anyiwoyi, Emmanuel Nuhu, Danjuma Ali, Parisa Numa, Ezekiel Jatau, Shekwosa Ezekiel, Roseline Samuel, Salome Jacob, Abyelo Ezra, and Ezra Male.
Describing the harrowing ordeal, the source narrated, “The kidnapping incident occurred last night, Sunday 05/05/2024, at about 11 pm. The kidnappers raided the village for about one hour without any response or reaction from the community or outsiders. The major challenge faced by the community was the lack of telecommunication network, hindering communication with others. Consequently, they targeted households, abducting approximately 13 individuals from the community, later releasing three.”
The Madakin Piko, as informed by the source, stated that the gunmen have demanded a ransom of N900,000,000 (nine hundred million naira). “They abducted about four Fulani people, and one of them has been released,” he added.
