The Nigerian government has urged the European Union (EU) to step up its support in addressing the nation’s security issues. Speaking at the “Road to Schuman Forum on Security and Defence,” organized by the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in collaboration with the EU, Minister of Defence Mohammed Badaru highlighted the global interconnectedness of security challenges. Badaru, represented by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr Ibrahim Kana, stressed that insecurity anywhere affects other nations and called for more resources to combat terrorism and banditry. Major General Adamu Garba Laka, the National Coordinator of NCTC, emphasized the importance of collective efforts to address security threats in Nigeria and the ECOWAS region. Ambassador Samuela Isopi, head of the EU Delegation to Nigeria, underscored the meeting’s purpose of gathering insights on peace, security, and defence challenges. The event served as a lead-up to the Schuman Security and Defence Forum in Brussels, where Nigeria will join EU member states, partner countries, and international organizations to discuss security collaborations.
