Three Suspected Armed Robbers Arrested, 34 Stolen Phones Recovered in Benue – Police

The Benue State Police Command has apprehended three suspected armed robbers and recovered 34 mobile phones, three HP laptops, and two MP3 players believed to be stolen.

In a statement issued on Friday, September 12, 2025, in Makurdi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, said the suspects were arrested during a stop-and-search operation conducted at Orokam Junction along Obollo Afor Road.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Mujahid Mohammed (21), Yahaya Abdullahi (21), and Kalipha Mohammad (28), all residents of Mararaba and Nyanya areas of Abuja.

According to DSP Edet, “On August 31, 2025, at about 5:05 p.m., operatives of the Orokam Police Division, while on stop-and-search duty, intercepted a bag in the suspects’ possession containing 34 handsets of various brands, three HP laptops, and two MP3 players.”

During interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to being part of an armed robbery gang that has been operating in the Orokam community of Benue State and several areas in Enugu State.

“They admitted to robbing six residential flats in the Umukasi area and ten flats in the St. Theresa area of Nsukka, Enugu State,” the statement said.

The suspects also revealed that their gang leader, identified as Abba Mohammed (27), escaped during the arrest, fleeing with their weapons. He remains at large.

DSP Edet added that the Command is working closely with the Enugu and Gombe State Police Commands to apprehend the fleeing suspect and identify the rightful owners of the recovered items.

The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, CP Emenari Ifeanyi, mnips, psc, PhD, commended the prompt response of the patrol team and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements.

He also urged members of the public to continue providing the police with timely and useful information to enhance public safety.
