The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a woman, identified as Ada Clement, for allegedly running a baby factory in Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Sunday, October 26, 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed that police operatives rescued five pregnant underage girls from the illegal facility.
According to Ayanlade, the suspect allegedly sold babies for ₦400,000 and above for female infants, and ₦600,000 and above for male infants.
“The Ondo State Police Command has uncovered a suspected baby factory and human trafficking syndicate operating within Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area,” the statement read.
“The case, which was transferred from the Ore Division to the Command’s Gender-Based Violence Unit, is currently under active investigation.”
The incident came to light on October 21, 2025, when a 17-year-old girl, Vivian Peter from Ikot Ekpan in Akwa Ibom State, reported to the Ore Police Division that she had been trafficked from Akwa Ibom to Ondo State under the pretense of a job offer.
Upon arrival in Ore, Vivian was taken to a supposed clinic that turned out to be a baby factory, where she met several other pregnant girls held for exploitation. She later managed to escape after being sent for a medical scan and sought help at the Ore Police Division, where she reported the incident.
Following her report, police operatives from the Ore Division, working with the Gender Unit, raided the facility and successfully rescued five pregnant girls and a baby boy. One of the victims had already given birth and is currently receiving postnatal care at the General Hospital in Ore, while others are under police protection.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Ada Clement and her accomplices confessed to operating the baby factory, where young pregnant girls were kept until delivery, after which their babies were sold to individuals seeking children.
The state Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to ensure all members of the trafficking ring are tracked down and prosecuted. Ayanlade added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate.
