The Lagos State Government has reported that at least 133 lives and N19.72 billion worth of property were lost to fire incidents across the state in 2025.

This marks a rise from 2024, when 91 lives and N19.52 billion in property were lost to fires.

The figures were disclosed in the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service’s 2025 Activity Report, presented during the 2026 Staff Engagement event themed “People, Preparedness and Service Delivery: Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service,” held on Tuesday at Alausa, Ikeja.

The report showed that the service received a total of 2,617 calls last year, of which 645 were false alarms among 1,685 recorded fire incidents. Despite the tragedies, 473 victims were rescued alive, and property worth N118.32 billion was saved.

Fire prevention efforts also saw 8,791 facilities inspected, 7,997 certificates issued, and 90 reports produced.

In her address, Controller General Margaret Adeseye highlighted the service’s achievements but noted ongoing operational challenges, including frequent false alarms and inadequate water supply during emergency responses.
