
The Oyo State Police Command has intercepted a truck conveying materials suspected to be explosive devices during a stop-and-search operation in Saki, Oyo State.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday, January 25, 2026, describing the intelligence-led operation as a major success.
According to the statement, operatives acting on credible intelligence stopped the truck during routine checks and discovered items believed to be explosive devices. The truck and its contents were immediately secured and taken into police custody.
Following a briefing on the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, psc, ordered a comprehensive investigation. As a result, specialised personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit were deployed to safely secure the materials for proper handling and forensic examination.
DSP Olayinka said detailed forensic analysis is ongoing to determine the exact nature of the items and their intended use, alongside a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The truck driver has been arrested and is currently in custody, where he is cooperating fully with investigators.

The police command reassured residents of Oyo State that there is no cause for panic, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to the protection of lives and property. Members of the public were urged to remain calm, as the command promised to keep them informed as investigations progress.
