All Catholic masses in Dubai have been suspended as tensions escalate across the Middle East, with churches citing safety concerns ahead of Easter.

St Francis of Assisi Church announced that all services are cancelled until further notice in compliance with government directives, as the area has reportedly been affected by missile and drone activity linked to the ongoing conflict. Worshippers were urged to avoid church premises, with officials stressing the importance of safety and community wellbeing.

Similarly, St Mary’s Catholic Church confirmed the suspension of services, noting that its Good Friday mass will be streamed online to allow participation from home. The disruptions come during Holy Week, one of the most significant periods in the Christian calendar leading up to Easter Sunday.

Amid the broader conflict, Pope Leo XVI has been engaging global leaders in efforts to promote peace. He held separate calls with Isaac Herzog and Volodymyr Zelensky to address the humanitarian consequences of ongoing wars.

In his discussion with Herzog, the pope emphasized reopening diplomatic channels to reach a lasting solution in the Middle East, while also stressing the protection of civilians and adherence to international law. Talks with Zelensky focused on the war in Ukraine, including the urgent need for humanitarian aid and efforts to secure prisoner releases. Zelensky noted that attacks continued despite ongoing discussions, highlighting the absence of progress toward a ceasefire.

The Vatican said the pope expressed hope that stronger international cooperation could help end hostilities and achieve a just and lasting peace. The suspension of church services in Dubai underscores how the conflict is increasingly affecting civilian life across the region.
