Senior pastor Poju Oyemade has responded to growing calls for religious leaders to take a more active role in addressing Nigeria’s political and socio-economic challenges, insisting that pastors have already made significant contributions and should not be expected to solve every national problem.

Speaking during a sermon, Oyemade recounted a conversation with a prominent politician who was surprised to find highly successful professionals, including top business executives and banking leaders, serving in various volunteer roles within the church.

According to Oyemade, the politician observed that Nigeria could witness remarkable transformation if individuals with such expertise and influence devoted the same level of commitment to national development as they do to church activities.

Addressing frequent appeals for pastors to step forward and fix the country’s problems, Oyemade maintained that religious leaders are citizens like everyone else and should not bear sole responsibility for driving change.

“We have done our work. Don’t call us beyond what we have done. We are all citizens together. Please leave us alone,” he said.
