Stefano Gabbana has stepped down as chairman of Dolce & Gabbana, though he will remain active in shaping the brand’s creative direction.

The company confirmed that the 63-year-old left his corporate roles effective January 1, describing the decision as part of a broader shift in its organisational and governance structure. In a statement, the move was framed as “a natural process of organisational and governance evolution.”

Gabbana co-founded the label in 1985 with Domenico Dolce, helping transform it into one of the most recognisable names in global luxury fashion.

Following his exit as chairman, the role has been assumed by Alfonso Dolce, the company’s chief executive and brother of Domenico Dolce.

Reports indicate that Gabbana may be considering options for his 40% stake in the business, as the company engages in talks with lenders to refinance roughly €450 million in debt. However, discussions are ongoing, and the company has not disclosed further details.

Despite the leadership change, Gabbana will continue to play a key creative role at the brand, which remains a major force in fashion, known for its bold aesthetic and high-profile following, including celebrities such as Madonna.
