The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, April 9, arrested 31 suspected internet fraudsters during a raid on an alleged cybercrime training centre located in Becki Estate, Karu, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The suspects, said to include two ringleaders and several trainees, were apprehended while reportedly undergoing lessons in internet fraud. Items recovered from the scene include mobile phones, 18 laptops, and other electronic devices.

In a statement, the anti-graft agency revealed that investigations showed some of the trainees were lured from Benue State with promises of legitimate employment. However, upon arrival, they were provided with communication tools, computers, and software allegedly used to train them in cyber fraud.

The EFCC further disclosed that the recruits were housed within the facility, with their movements restricted and their phones confiscated, effectively cutting them off from the outside world.

The statement also alleged that strict discipline was enforced, including physical punishment for those who failed to comply with instructions.

The agency said all suspects will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
