A high school coach is facing multiple sex crime charges involving alleged inappropriate contact with a student following her sudden resignation.
According to WBMA, former Cold Springs High School basketball coach Paige Adams, 35, was arrested on Tuesday, April 22. She is accused of engaging in sexual activities with a student.
Adams faces several charges, including one count of a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student, one count of sexual contact with a student under 19, and 30 counts of distributing obscene material to a student.
The arrest follows earlier action by the Cullman County Board of Education. During a special meeting on March 25, the board accepted Adams’ resignation.
At the time, Cullman County Schools Superintendent Shane Barnette said it was the first formal complaint received about the employee. He noted that an investigation began immediately after the concern was raised, and that Adams chose to resign during the process.
Barnette added that all school property was returned, Adams was escorted off campus, and the case was referred to the appropriate authorities. He emphasized that the district’s priority is the safety and protection of its students.
