The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 37-year-old man, Basiru Rasheed Orelope, over the death of a 35-year-old woman, Rukayat Rafiu.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, May 2, 2026. He said the incident was reported by Ademola Rasheed Adebayo and Taoreed Olayiwola after the suspect brought the woman’s lifeless body to her family home in Ibadan under suspicious circumstances.
According to the police, initial observations showed no visible signs of violence on the deceased’s body, though it has since been subjected to forensic examination.
During interrogation, Orelope reportedly told investigators that Rafiu was his customer who purchased KEDI supplement products from him. He said they both travelled to Ago-Iwoye in Ogun State, where he accommodated her in his rented apartment.
The suspect claimed he later found the woman struggling to breathe while holding an inhaler. He said he rushed her to a medical facility, where she was confirmed dead.
Police said his decision to return the body to her family residence raised suspicion, prompting the report.
The corpse has been deposited at a morgue along Akala Express Road in Ibadan for autopsy, while the suspect remains in custody.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet investigation.
The command assured the public that efforts are ongoing to uncover the exact circumstances surrounding the death and urged residents to remain calm and cooperate by providing any useful information.
