Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday visited the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, at his residence in Abuja.

The meeting comes amid growing political tension in Rivers State following the APC’s screening of aspirants for the forthcoming State House of Assembly elections.

The screening exercise has generated controversy within the party’s Rivers State chapter after a committee headed by former lawmaker Muraina Ajibola cleared only 33 aspirants and disqualified 65 others out of the 98 individuals who purchased nomination forms for the 32 available seats.

The large number of disqualifications has sparked internal disagreements and raised concerns over the criteria adopted by the screening committee.

Although details of the meeting between Wike and Yilwatda were not disclosed, the timing has fueled speculation that discussions may have focused on the political situation unfolding in Rivers State.

Wike’s involvement is considered significant due to his strong influence in Rivers politics and the ongoing realignment of political interests within the state.
