Bruno Fernandes has been crowned Premier League Player of the Season following an outstanding campaign with Manchester United F.C.

The Portugal international adds the accolade to the Football Writers’ Association Men’s Player of the Year award he collected earlier this month. Fernandes was instrumental in guiding Manchester United to a third-place finish in the Premier League and securing qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

The midfielder scored eight league goals and matched the Premier League’s single-season assist record after delivering his 20th assist in United’s clash with Nottingham Forest F.C. last weekend. Across the season, Fernandes created 132 chances — the highest tally in the division and 43 more than Liverpool F.C.’s Dominik Szoboszlai, who ranked second.

Fernandes is the first Manchester United player to win the Premier League Player of the Season award since Nemanja Vidić in 2011. The recipient was chosen through a combination of public voting and selections made by a panel of football experts.

Other nominees included Arsenal F.C. trio David Raya, Gabriel Magalhães and Declan Rice, Manchester City F.C. striker Erling Haaland, as well as Antoine Semenyo, Igor Thiago and Morgan Gibbs-White. Manchester United will conclude their league campaign against Brighton & Hove Albion F.C. on Sunday.

Meanwhile, members of United’s coaching staff — including Steve Holland, Jonny Evans, Jonathan Woodgate, Travis Binnion and Craig Mawson — have all signed new two-year deals to remain part of Michael Carrick’s backroom team. Carrick also committed his future to the club on Friday by signing a permanent two-year contract after stepping in as interim manager following Ruben Amorim’s departure in January.

In the Premier League Young Player of the Season category, Manchester City’s Nico O’Reilly earned the honour after an impressive breakthrough year. The 21-year-old defender contributed five goals and three assists in 34 league appearances.

O’Reilly, who joined City’s academy at the age of eight, also made his senior England debut in November and has been named in Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He saw off competition from fellow City player Rayan Cherki, Bournemouth duo Junior Kroupi and Alex Scott, Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, and Lewis Hall, Michael Kayode and Matheus Fernandes.
