Suspected Navy impostor arrested in Plateau

Troops of Sector 1 Operation Enduring Peace have arrested a man suspected of impersonating a Nigerian Navy officer in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The suspect, identified as Mohammed Auwal, was apprehended following reports of suspicious activities at Grovos Hotel in the Apata area of Jos North.

According to security sources, troops acted on the intelligence at about 2:56 p.m. on May 23 and arrested the suspect at the hotel.

Initial investigations revealed that Auwal allegedly presented himself as a serving member of the Nigerian Navy, raising security concerns and prompting further investigation by the military.

The suspect remains in custody as authorities continue investigations to verify his identity, determine his motive and establish whether he may be linked to any other criminal activities.

Security agencies have reiterated warnings against impersonating military or security personnel, stressing that such offences pose serious threats to public trust and security operations.

Residents have also been encouraged to stay alert and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to relevant security authorities.
