Warri-Itakpe train derails, four coaches affected — NRC

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that four coaches of the Warri-Itakpe Train Service derailed on Monday, June 8.

In a statement issued by the corporation’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kayode Opeifa, the NRC said emergency response teams and other relevant authorities were immediately deployed to the scene to manage the situation and assist affected passengers.

“The Nigerian Railway Corporation confirms that an incident involving the Warri-Itakpe Train Service occurred today. Emergency response teams and relevant authorities are currently at the scene attending to the situation and providing necessary assistance,” the statement read.

Opeifa noted that the corporation was closely monitoring developments and would provide additional updates as more details emerge. He explained that four coaches of the train left the tracks during the incident, a situation known in railway operations as a derailment.

The NRC appealed to the public to remain calm and rely on official communication channels for accurate and verified information regarding the incident.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the derailment had not been determined, while no information had been released on possible injuries or casualties.
