Iran military announces halt to operation against Israel

Iran’s military command announced on Monday, June 8,that it was suspending its operations against Israel following a fresh exchange of fire between the two countries, marking the first direct confrontation since a ceasefire took effect in April.

The latest flare-up came after renewed hostilities over the weekend, during which both sides launched missile attacks amid escalating tensions linked to developments in Lebanon and broader regional security concerns. Although the ceasefire brokered earlier this year had largely remained in place, both nations had repeatedly accused each other of violating its terms.

In a statement broadcast by state television, Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya military command said the country had delivered what it described as a “painful response” to Israel and was therefore ending its current military operations.

“Accordingly, the cessation of armed forces operations is hereby announced,” the statement said.

However, the command warned that any further acts of aggression would trigger a stronger response.

“It is emphasised that should acts of aggression and hostility continue, including in southern Lebanon, much more severe and crushing measures than before will follow,” the statement added.

The announcement comes amid growing concerns that the renewed violence could undermine the fragile truce and reignite a broader regional conflict.

Tensions between Iran and Israel intensified earlier this year after a series of direct military confrontations involving missile and drone attacks. The escalation raised alarm among global powers, who warned of the risk of a wider war in the Middle East. Regional groups allied with Iran, particularly in Lebanon and Yemen, have also contributed to the expanding security crisis across the region.
