Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has compared President Bola Tinubu to Singapore’s founding Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, praising the Nigerian leader for his economic reform agenda.

Uzodimma made the remarks on Friday, July 17, during a state dinner held at the Imo State Government House.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, July 18, by Tinubu’s spokesperson, Tunde Rahman, the governor said the President assumed office with a clear understanding of Nigeria’s economic challenges and acted decisively to implement reforms.

“In President Bola Tinubu, we have another Lee Kuan Yew,” Uzodimma said.

Lee Kuan Yew served as Singapore’s first prime minister from 1959 to 1990 and is widely credited with transforming the country from a developing nation into one of the world’s most prosperous economies through industrialisation, policies that attracted foreign investment and a strong anti-corruption campaign.

Although his leadership style was criticised by some as authoritarian, Singapore has become one of the world’s wealthiest countries in terms of per capita income.

Uzodimma said Tinubu’s economic reforms reflect a similar level of determination and leadership in addressing Nigeria’s long-standing economic challenges.
