A 30-year-old man, Sunday Pada, was allegedly beaten and stabbed to death by a mob in the Korokpan area of Minna, Niger State, following an accusation of theft.
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, confirming the arrest of four suspects in connection with the incident.
According to Abiodun, trouble started on August 10 when an alarm was raised accusing Pada of being a thief. A mob reportedly descended on him, beat him severely and later stabbed him.
Police operatives from the Paiko Division were alerted and rushed to the scene, but the suspects had fled before their arrival. Pada was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The police said three of the suspects were initially found in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency following a raid in the area and were later handed over to the police. A fourth suspect was subsequently arrested.
The suspects were identified as Ibrahim Abubakar, Aliyu Onah, Godwin Musa and Aminu Bawa, all residents of the Korokpan area of Minna.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that Pada was returning from a friend’s house when the suspects allegedly intercepted him after someone raised an alarm that a thief was nearby.
The four suspects are currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for alleged criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.
