FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has dismissed the opposition’s chances of defeating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, urging them to forget about winning the upcoming poll.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, August 18, Wike said opposition parties should instead focus on reorganising themselves after the 2027 election.
He argued that the recent Osun governorship election results demonstrated the strength of the ruling party and suggested that opposition parties were already preparing to complain about the outcome of the 2027 polls.
“Try, they know that the only thing they can do now is to start crying, but if it’s to win the election, no, they can’t win.
“Maybe after now they can start planning and putting their house in order, but if it’s this 2027 election against Tinubu, no, forget it, it’s over.”
Wike also described the opposition as “depleted,” claiming that he was among those responsible for weakening it.
He said Nigerians should focus on how political leaders plan to address the country’s challenges rather than simply identifying themselves as opposition figures.
