DNA samples have been collected from the remains of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, and his son, Liam, in a significant development in the prolonged controversy surrounding the child’s paternity.

The exercise was conducted under court supervision on Saturday, October 31, in Lagos, following an application by Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, seeking a DNA test to establish Liam’s biological paternity.

The court granted the application and appointed a welfare officer to supervise the process, scheduling October 31 for the collection of the samples.

The first set of samples was collected from Mohbad’s remains at Mainland General Hospital, popularly known as the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH), in Yaba, Lagos. They were subsequently transported under tight security to the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, where samples were also obtained from Liam for forensic examination and further analysis.

The exercise reportedly took place amid heavy security and strict adherence to the court’s directives over concerns about possible public disturbances. The security arrangements followed appeals by Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, to his supporters on social media to turn out in support of him.

Mohbad’s mother, Abosede, younger brother, Adura, and widow, Omowunmi, were also present during the proceedings.

The exercise reportedly became emotional during the identification of the late singer’s remains.

The paternity dispute emerged following Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023. Since then, his father, Joseph Aloba, has repeatedly questioned whether Liam is the biological son of the late singer and has consistently demanded a DNA test to resolve the matter.
