A 23-year-old man has been detained by the court for fatally hacking his father to death in Kwara.

A 23-year-old man named Saidi has been placed in custody for allegedly murdering his father, Chief Musa Elemosho, in Kwara State.

The deceased held the title of Elemosho of Shareland in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State until his demise. Saidi appeared before Magistrate Muhammed Dasuki, facing a one-count charge of culpable homicide.

As per the First Information Report, Saidi claimed that he attacked his father with a cutlass in response to alleged verbal abuse in the sitting room. The assault resulted in fatal injuries, and Saidi fled to a mountain in Share after the incident.

During the court proceedings, Police Prosecutor Sgt Abdullah Sanni argued that the matter was not bailable. He requested the court to consider the attached motion ex parte to the FIR and order the defendant’s remand in a correctional facility.

The magistrate granted the prosecutor’s request, ordering the remand of the suspect. The case was adjourned to January 9, 2024.
