The Borno State Police Command has apprehended two suspects, namely 31-year-old Adamu Alhaji Ibrahim and 39-year-old Bukar Wadiya, in connection with the murder of a 24-year-old daughter of a Borno House of Assembly member representing Ngala Local Government Area.
The victim was allegedly strangled by unidentified individuals in the vicinity of Gidan Dembe in Maiduguri last Tuesday, with her funeral taking place the following Wednesday in accordance with Islamic customs. The incident occurred at approximately 7 p.m., while the husband had reportedly left the premises to attend prayers at a nearby mosque.
In a statement, the police stated:
“On the 18th of October, 2023, at approximately 1800 hours, Adamu Alhaji Ibrahim, 31 years old, from Dikechiri Bayan Gidan Dambe area in Maiduguri, went to the Gwange Division, accompanied by Bukar Wadiya, 39 years old, in a Honda vehicle with registration number MAG 230 AP and CHASIS NO ANR742256679821. They were carrying the body of a woman, whom Adamu Alhaji Ibrahim claimed to be his wife, seeking emergency assistance from the police.
“The deceased was later identified as Fatima Alhaji Bukar. The husband reported that he is an employee of UBA BANK and had returned from work around 1700 hours to find her lying in a pool of blood. Preliminary investigations reveal that before the incident, the couple had been embroiled in domestic disputes related to an alleged extramarital affair by the husband at their matrimonial home.
“The house where the incident occurred, situated in the Dikechiri Bayan Gidan Dambe area of Maiduguri, was secured. During a search, the following items were recovered: a short pestle, a bag rope, a rug carpet stained with blood, a knife, a Honda vehicle with CHASIS NO ANR742256679821, PLATE NO MAG230AP, and a pillow stained with mucus.
“There was no evidence of forced entry or breakage into the house, and only the husband possessed the key to access the house from the outside. Both the husband and Bukar Wadiya were detained as primary suspects. A discreet investigation is currently underway for thorough prosecution.”
