In Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State, a newborn baby was discovered abandoned on a farm. According to reports from Daily Trust, a farmer named Dubore stumbled upon the infant inside a carton while working on Sunday morning, September 24, 2023. Dubore promptly alerted the village head of Wurya in Gwaram Tsohuwa about the discovery.
The village head then contacted Alhaji Tamaji Gwaram, the personal assistant to the Chairman of Gwaram Local Government, who took the baby to the Divisional Police Officer of Gwaram local government for further action. Subsequently, the baby was taken to a hospital, where a thorough examination confirmed the child to be in good health.
Following this, the local government chairman, Hon. Zaharaddeen Abubakar, instructed them to find a woman willing to care for the baby. They identified a woman in the vicinity named Rukayya Aliyu, who, with her husband’s consent, the district head of Wurya, Malam Aminu Abdul-Hamid, pledged to care for the child.
The newborn was named Zaharaddeen Aminu Gwaram, and the local government chairman ensured that the caregiver received a monthly allowance. He also committed to supporting her until the end of his tenure as chairman of Gwaram local government.
The State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident and the baby’s handover to the caregiver, as directed by the local government chairman.
