The Anambra State Government has demolished Airtight Guest House in Awka over alleged criminal activities, arresting 20 suspected sex workers and 18 male patrons.
The facility, located at Y-Junction in Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area, was reportedly being used as a brothel and a hub for criminal operations, including drug trafficking.
The demolition followed a night raid on Sunday, March 29, 2026, by Agunaechemba security operatives, who discovered a large quantity of illicit drugs, a firearm, and evidence of prostitution on the premises.
Leading the operation, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, said the action was carried out in accordance with the Anambra Homeland Security Law.
Items recovered during the raid included Tramadol, Indian hemp, nitrous oxide, Rohypnol, and other substances, as well as a locally made single-barrel gun.
Emeakayi explained that the law empowers the government to seize or demolish properties linked to crimes such as kidnapping and drug-related offences. He added that the move should serve as a warning to property owners to properly verify the identity and activities of their tenants.
The manager of the guest house, Paul Chike, claimed he was only overseeing the business on behalf of the owner. He said efforts had been made to prevent sex workers from bringing clients to the facility and alleged that the firearm recovered was left behind by a guest.
During the operation, the manager, along with the supervisor, storekeeper, and bar attendant, was also taken into custody
