Arrested singer Akon says his wife should get zero spousal support

Akon is taking a firm stance in his divorce from his estranged wife, Tomeka, making it clear in newly filed court documents that he has no intention of paying her spousal support.

The filings show that the music star selected the option to terminate spousal support for Tomeka, his wife of twenty-nine years. This comes after Tomeka, in her September divorce petition, requested support—while also asking the court not to grant any support to Akon, signaling that both may be aiming to protect their financial interests.

In his response submitted Friday at the Los Angeles Superior Court, Akon also requested joint physical custody of their seventeen-year-old child. Tomeka, however, is seeking joint legal custody but full physical custody.

The divorce developments come as Akon faces additional legal troubles. Just last week, he was arrested in Georgia for failing to appear in court after being charged with driving on a suspended license.

As proceedings continue, both parties must now sort through custody arrangements, financial matters, and the steps needed to formally end their long marriage.
