Bandits have allegedly killed a businessman identified as Mallam Auwal in Kaduna State despite collecting N12 million ransom for his release.
Auwal was reportedly abducted from his residence at Hayin Babban Saura Police Quarters in Kaduna.
According to reports, his family managed to raise the ransom demanded by the kidnappers in an effort to secure his freedom. However, after receiving the N12 million, the bandits allegedly killed him and claimed that they had buried his remains.
The kidnappers also reportedly abducted Auwal’s son, who personally delivered the ransom payment in an attempt to secure his father’s release. The son remains in captivity.
A Salatul Gha’ib, a funeral prayer performed in absentia, was held for Auwal at Murtala Square in Kaduna on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
Family members, neighbours and community leaders gathered at the prayer to mourn the deceased and pray for the safe return of his son, who is still being held by the kidnappers.
