Super Eagles sensation Victor Osimhen has clinched the prestigious title of the 2023 African Footballer of the Year at the 2023 CAF Awards.
The prolific Napoli striker emerged victorious over strong contenders, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, and Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah, securing the award on Monday, December 11. Osimhen’s stellar performance included scoring 26 goals in 32 appearances, making him the top scorer in the league and contributing significantly to Napoli’s first Serie A title in 33 years.
Napoli’s remarkable journey extended to the Champions League quarterfinals last season, marking their best performance in the elite European competition. Osimhen’s notable achievement includes scoring five goals in six Champions League games. His individual excellence, coupled with Napoli’s successes, has earned the 24-year-old striker a well-deserved position among the top 10 contenders for this year’s Ballon d’Or.
