The Delta State Police Command has apprehended three teenagers for orchestrating the staged kidnapping of one of their friends and extorting N700,000 from his parents.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the boys, all aged 17, were apprehended after receiving the ransom.

Edafe’s statement reads:

“These three suspects, all aged 17 and friends, collaborated to fabricate the kidnapping of one of their acquaintances in Agbor. They then contacted the parent of one of the suspects, demanding a ransom. Following the collection of a ransom totaling N700,000, they were arrested.

“Let us urge our young men to exercise restraint. Seeking shortcuts to success often leads to untimely consequences. It is disheartening to witness a 17-year-old resorting to staging a fake kidnapping to extort money from a parent.

“Unfortunately, the parents may begin scrambling to shield them from facing justice. However, justice must prevail and be served.”
