A diphtheria outbreak in Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State has tragically claimed the lives of four children, with an additional 28 children diagnosed with the disease, according to Mr. Tasiu Yahaya, the Information Officer of the local government.
In a statement issued, Mr. Yahaya disclosed that the affected children hailed from the towns of Kwarkiya, Kuru, Kunya, and Minjibir within the local government area. He emphasized the urgent need for authorities and stakeholders to intervene promptly to safeguard the health of the community.
Muhammad Yakubu Kunya, the Interim Management Officer of the local government, echoed this call to action, urging swift measures to contain the outbreak and prevent further spread of the disease.
Additionally, the district head of the local government appealed to traditional rulers and scholars to educate the community about diphtheria and solicit prayers for relief from the outbreak. These collective efforts are essential in combating the spread of the disease and ensuring the well-being of the affected population.
