Troops Won’t Leave Niger Delta Creeks Until Killers Of 17 Military Personnel Are Found, Vows Nigerian Army Chief

The Nigerian Army has emphasized that troops will remain stationed in the creeks of Delta State until those responsible for the tragic killing of 17 military personnel in Okuama community are brought to justice.

Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, and Land Component Commander of the Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation DELTA STATE, assured leaders of the Niger Delta region of the military’s unwavering commitment to professionalism in apprehending the perpetrators.

In a statement released on Thursday, March 21, the Nigerian Army reiterated its determination to conduct operations with firmness, strength, decisiveness, and professionalism in the affected area.

During a condolence visit by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Samuel Ogbuku, at the Division’s Headquarters in Port Harcourt Barracks, Major General Abdussalam expressed gratitude for the visit and outlined the mission entrusted to the troops by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja. The primary objectives include recovering the weapons taken by the assailants and apprehending all those involved in the heinous crime.

Major General Abdussalam affirmed that troops would remain stationed in the creeks until these objectives are accomplished, emphasizing the military’s dedication to restoring peace and security in the region.
